Today, we know Sagrantino primarily as a dry or secco wine. But for centuries the great red grape of Umbria, was vinified almost exclusively as a sweet passito or "dried-grape" wine (first made by the friars of Umbrian monasteries not unlike the one where St. Francis of Assisi began his religious life in the fourteenth century). Terre de Trinci's sweet version harkens back to the origins of this noble wine.
